People Sketchin'

A collection of sketches of friend, peers, and random interesting folks! In character design class we were challenged to draw as many different type of people as possible, to inspire us to create interesting and diverse characters.

It was so much fun exploring new styles and techniques! More people sketches and updates as I head into winter break! Happy holidays everyone.

Inking at the Zoo

Tried out a new inking technique at the zoo. I really wanted to loosen up my drawings and create something graphic and interesting, so I pulled out my brush pen and went to work.

I love the art of Al Hirschfeld, and while I drew I tried to keep his technique and style in mind.Using the brush pen forced me to be incredibly simple and communicate with as few lines as possible.
These turned out pretty well and I will definitely be using more ink in the future!

Character Development Sketches: Rin

Some early development sketches I did yesterday. I am continuing work on a feudal Japan set story, either based on "Lone Wolf and Cub" or on a Japanese fairytale.

My two main characters will be an older brother and younger sister, and their relationship will drive the story. I don't draw a lot of little kids, so this is new for me. Rin's design may change a lot over time, but I though these doodles were worth further investigation.

Critique and criticism always wanted.

Rain or Shine

A commission I did for a client today, done in col-erase and finished in Photoshop. Admittedly in all my years of drawing, I have never done a lot of work with two characters interacting, so I like that this turned out ok!

Character Design: Taka

A work in progress character design. I am still trying to find my voice when it comes to my painting and sketch style for my visual development and character design portfolio, so this sheet will definitely change later in the year. Not satisfied with how this look turned out, but I'm exploring!

I am happy with the character himself, and I'm going to write a story around him. I really want to tell a story about siblings and family bonds, with an older brother, younger sister, and possible animal companion.

Critiques and criticisms wanted!

Character Design Pack: Jack

Meet Jack, one of my characters for my dramatic acting scene! Decided to use a lot of common design elements for this guy, to assist with the readability of the character in what is going to be a very short scene (about eleven seconds). Coming soon: Sade's character pack and rough key animation!
